RHI Radio 2011

We are Red Hook Radio, a youth produced radio station. Our mission is to create change by reflecting the Red Hook community voice. Through this program we give young adults the opportunity to express their ideas and opinions based on influences, challenges and experiences they face in their communities. We are determined to inform the Red Hook community and all other communities from the perspectives of young adults about issues we all face in our neighborhoods. With this motivation, we plan to educate by sharing our knowledge through training and by providing a vehicle for communication.

Biographies

Divina Temple

My name is Divina Temple and I am 17 years old and I am a junior at The Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice. I hope to go to college and peruse my dreams of becoming a rich and famous lawyer. I lover to dance have fun and just be myself.
I have been working at the RHI for three years now and I have enjoyed every year. I started out a peer health educator in which we learned about the reproductive system. We got the chance to learn about pregnancies, STD's, STI's and much more! I later joined the Mirror's Of Strength as Ms. Deanna's assistant. This group was filled with young teen girls and we made it our goal to encourage them to help build one another's self-esteem and help create a safe place for them to feel at home. Now I am with the radio program and I hope it brings out some new things I didn't know about myself. I look forward to enjoying every minute of it!!!

Alberto Andujar

How ya'll Doing? I'm back again on this bio thing just so ya'll can get to know me just a little bit more. My name is Alberto London Ramon Andujar. I am 15 years old and my birthday is March 24th which means I'm an Aries you already know!
I love music and sneakers. I believe my heart is shaped like a music note and my brain like a sneaker. My phone is always glued to my hand 24/7. I am a very bright student, a good friend, a ladies man, and an all around simplicit, amazing, and spontaneous, fun person. I go to Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies or B.C.S for short. I plan to graduate in the year 2014, and have my entire family there to support me.

Tony Schloss

My name is Tony Schloss, and I am the RHI Radio coordinator. I helped start the radio program in 2008 and now we are in our third year. I have been a recording engineer and producer since 2000, and I own a recording studio in Red Hook where we focus on jazz, world music, a little bit of hip hop, basically anything but rock and roll.
I was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, but left there at age 18 and have lived many places since. When I moved to Red Hook in 2005, I knew that though I still like to travel, it would become my home base for many years to come. I love the strong community, the mix of people, and the feeling of open space, something hard to find in New York City.
