RHI Needs YOUR Help! Support Our Building Campaign.
RHI has exciting news! We have secured space for our future home in the heart of the Red Hook Houses! Last fall RHI was forced to close its doors at 595 Clinton Street when the organization that had donated the space needed it back to accommodate their own needs. At the same time, a few blocks away, a Red Hook native was finalizing touches on a brand new warehouse built on an empty lot at 767 Hicks Street.
Now, RHI has a lease and building plans to convert the warehouse into our new home. We need to raise $350,000 in order to create offices, meeting rooms, and program spaces. If all goes as planned, we will be in our new space by fall 2009. The residents of the Red Hook Houses have committed to raising $10,000; this is significant in a neighborhood where the median family income is $16,000 a year. We have also requested support from our elected officials, foundations, and local businesses.
We are depending on individual donors to help us raise a portion of this goal. Your donation will help to ensure the following:
RHI will continue to employ over 50 residents of the Red Hook Houses. For many RHI is the only source of earned income for the household.
Our staff will continue to provide 30 programs and services each month, mainly for young people between the ages of 9 - 24.
Our center will offer a safe space for young people to spend their time 12 hours a day, six days a week.
With more space, RHI will be able to provide much needed middle school programming and services for young men from Red Hook.
No contribution is considered too small! All donations are tax deductible and 100% of your gift returns directly to the community!
