In February 2010 RHI made the historic move into our brand new community center in the heart of the Red Hook Houses. Our 14-month capital campaign was an incredible journey at an extremely challenging economic moment, but we made it!
One year ago, the idea of a new community center for RHI seemed nearly impossible. Thanks to the great design by Super-Interesting! the hard work of K&K Renovations, the generosity of foundations, corporations and individual donors, and the tireless perseverance of our board, staff, participants, and volunteers, this dream has become a reality. Residents of the Red Hook Houses contributed $10,000 toward the project, showing their belief in and ownership of RHI.
These many hands and huge hearts are now moving on to the second phase of our project: "Back on the Block!" Throughout 2010 RHI will work to raise $200,000 beyond our operating budget in order to meet the needs of Red Hook youth and families.
Your support will allow RHI to:
Continue to employ over 60 residents of the Red Hook Houses.
Serve 4,000 people in the next year through our programs and services (40% of the Red Hook population).
Develop a comprehensive leadership and empowerment program for young men ages 18 - 24.
Launch an internal management and leadership training.
Improve our college readiness program.
Continue to provide over 25 programs and services each week.
No contribution is considered too small! All donations are tax deductible. Donations over $1,000 receive an additional 25% tax credit from the New York State Empire Zone Project.
