Our Great Work Depends
on Your Support!

The Red Hook Initiative is positively impacting the lives of hundreds of young people in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn each day. We are doing it the right way - by directly engaging local residents in developing the skills and demonstrating the leadership to create change from within. Ninety percent of RHI's staff is from the Red Hook Houses (the local public housing development); many of them are teens and young adults themselves. But our work takes tremendous effort and requires overcoming astonishing odds. Won't you please applaud our determined young people by supporting RHI?

All donations are tax deductible and 100% goes directly to our services. Your contribution will help us sustain the home for leadership, empowerment, and social justice that we've built in Red Hook.

GIVING OPTIONS

Young people learn by doing. Whether it's a healthy cooking class, a science experiment, or on-line radio production, $100 will support hands-on learning opportunities for Red Hook youth.

$250 allows RHI to take Red Hook youth on tour of a local college. We start setting college as an expectation in middle school and increase involvement each year.

A donation of $500 enables RHI to host a health awareness event. In 2011, we will focus on preventing and managing asthma and diabetes in young people.

A $1,000 donation will support a monthly career exploration series for our middle school students.

RHI employs over 30 teenagers who receive training and then work on projects that create positive social change in Red Hook. These year-round jobs ensure that young people are gaining skills and experiences to propel them toward a successful, independent life.

Each year young people launch projects that create positive change in their neighborhood. In the past, teens have led a street tree planting project, tackled the high school dropout issue for young men, and carried out their own HIV prevention campaign.

With $10,000 RHI can provide SAT preparation classes, assistance with college applications, tutoring and academic support services, and college readiness programming for 20 high school juniors and seniors.
